Hello World!

We are thrilled to introduce Lightsource Games, a pioneering game development studio committed to forging a new path in the gaming ecosystem. Our mission is to empower game developers to not only create captivating games but to truly own and control their creations through the transformative capabilities of blockchain technology.

The Journey So Far:

On December 27th, 2021, Jackson Sardello helped me set up a XUMM Wallet, and sent me 15 XRP after discussing our philosophies around blockchain technology. We both agreed that its true potential had not been realized yet, and that there was an incredibly bright future, specifically in the domain of ownership. I shared my vision for a game monetized purely on the royalties of NFTs that are freely minted and given to players. The end-goal being a win-win partnership between player and developer. He shared with me that there is a blockchain out there with fraction-of-a-cent NFT minting fees, and it’s called the XRP Ledger!

That initial meeting and many more conversations turned into a Game Jam almost exactly a year later. On December 17th, 2022 Jackson and I got together with our buddy Tomas and became the first XRP Ledger and Godot developers to connect the Godot Game Engine to the XRP Ledger. Click-button in Godot, receive wallet info, boom! That was a cool moment.

December 17th, Franklin, TN – Godot Connected to the XRPL

During this time, I was collaborating on a physical card game with Andrew Laitinen, illustrator extraordinaire. Andrew got to hear some of my first ramblings about how games aren’t using blockchain technology properly back when we first met in 2019. Around March of this year, I asked if he’d be interested in working with Jackson and I on a project to make it easier for game developers to leverage the XRPL. He said that sounded rad and was ready to rock and roll.

Now that we had our blockchain developer (Jackson), our game developer (Me), and our artist (Andrew) the band was together and we decided to submit our proposal for an open-source Godot plugin to the XRPL Grants program. Just a few short months later, and we were chosen as one of the grant recipients!

The Vision:

At Lightsource Games, we envision a world where creative minds have the freedom to bring their visions to life and retain control over the fruits of their labor. We believe that open-source tools for game development and monetization are the keys to providing transparency, sustainability, and ownership in the gaming ecosystem. The XRP Ledger is is a world-class, open-source blockchain with a thriving community and the exact same goes for the Godot Game Engine. These technologies rock, and it’s time for them to get introduced to each other.

The Plan:

Lightsource Games is developing an open-source plugin for Godot called XRPL4GD. This plugin will provide an intuitive UI for anyone to connect their game or application developed in Godot to the XRP Ledger. It will also include a demo game, showcasing the capabilities of the plugin and providing education around how to leverage them. The plugin, game, and assets will all be open-source and free for anyone to use in their own projects!

Open-Source and Community Driven:

We believe in the power of community collaboration. Lightsource Games is not just a development studio; it’s a vibrant community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for innovative game development. Join us on this journey, where creativity knows no bounds, and ownership is paramount.

Conclusion:

As we embark on this exciting journey with Lightsource Games, we invite you to be part of a paradigm shift in the gaming industry. Together, let’s redefine the way games are created, owned, and enjoyed. Light up your creativity, embrace ownership, and let the games begin!
